In this present age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), education is critical, for developing skills like critical thinking, adaptability, and digital literacy, says the Convener, Bodex Social Media Hangout (BSMH 6.0), Bodex Hungbo.

Hungbo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that education was more critical than ever, not only for skill development but also for navigating the complex ethical landscape of modern technology and social media to backup AI use.

She said that AI had transformed learning through personalised experiences and automation of administrative tasks, but over-reliance could hinder essential problem-solving skills.

According to her, AI can be a powerful catalyst for empowerment by enhancing access to education and improving online safety.

She said, “The key aspect of education should focus on digital literacy, lifelong learning, human-centered skills which prioritise emotional intelligence, and creativity, which AI cannot replicate.

“Social media on its own has being amplified by AI algorithms that personalise content, spread misinformation, and impact mental health.

“Adhering to strong ethical guidelines is therefore crucial for a healthier digital ecosystem. Core ethics for its use include respecting privacy, honesty and transparency, combating misinformation and foster inclusiveness”.

Hungbo announced that arrangements have been concluded for the 6th edition of the Bodex Social Media Hangout (BSMH 6.0), a premier digital media and thought-leadership event, aim at amplifying AI education.

She said the three-day programme, with theme: “Social Media & AI Influence: Transforming Yourself, Services & the Society,” also aimed to delve into the convergence of innovation, influence, and integrity in the digital age.

The event according to the Convener, would take place from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23, 2025, spanning across the University of Lagos, Akoka, and Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja.

She revealed that the hangout would host policymakers, academics, creatives, legal experts, and digital strategists who were shaping Africa’s communication and innovation landscape.

“The programme will involve the learning experience with conversations around ethics, education and youth empowerment in the artificial intelligence era,” she said.

She listed prominent speakers who would grace the event to include the Dean, Faculty of Communication & Media Studies, UNILAG, Prof. Oloruntola Sunday, and the Convener, Centre for Social Media Research, Dr Akin Olaniyan among others.

Hungbo said the grand finale of the event would feature awards ceremony and the prestigious Bodex Media Awards, celebrating the individuals who have leveraged social media, innovation, and influence for social good.

“This special day will feature the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as Keynote Speaker and Honouree, receiving the ‘Most Friendly Digital Media Governor of the Year Award’.

“While access is free, registration is mandatory as all participants are expected to register via https://bsmhangout.com/bsmh-registration,”Hungbo said.(NAN)(www.nannews .ng)
