The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Gidanwaya chapter, Kaduna State, has commended Gov. Uba Sani for approving the implementation of the 70 per cent CONPCASS/CONTEDNISS improved salary structure.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the union had embarked on a strike in September to press home its demands for the improved salary structure, among others.

The union later suspended the industrial action after three weeks following the state government’s commitment to meet its demands.

The commendation was contained in a communique signed by its chairman, Dr Christopher Yerima, released on Thursday in Kafanchan.

The communique was issued following a unanimous resolution reached at its Congress on Nov.18.

It also lauded the state governor for approving the 65 years retirement age policy, release of accreditation funds, renovation of hostels and Science laboratories, among others.

It equally extended its appreciation to other prominent figures in the state for their efforts at facilitating the advancement of teacher education in the college and state as a whole.

The personalities, according to the communique, included: Dr Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Sen. Sunday Katung (APC-Kaduna South) and Rep. Dan Amos, representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency.

Others were; Prof.Abubakar Sambo, Commissioner for Education and Ismaila Lawal, Chairman, Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Education.

It added that the leadership of the union had been mandated to write a strong-worded letter of commendation to the governor and the other aforementioned personalities. (NAN)
