Blessing Onomen, Founder and Creative Director of Bloza Fashion Empire, has called for sustainable, ethical, and environmentally responsible fashion across Nigeria and Africa.

Onomen made the call in Abuja in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) ahead of the launch of her maiden Classic Fusion Fashion Show scheduled to hold on Dec. 6.

She said the fashion show was aimed at reaffirming the dedication to sustainable, ethical, and environmentally responsible fashion across Nigeria and Africa, advocating sustainability and eco-conscious fashion approach to cushion the effects of climate change.

According to her, there is need to champion sustainability and cultural elegance in Nigerian fashion sector.

“With the global industry increasingly challenged to reduce waste, embrace eco-friendly materials, and adopt ethical production systems, Bloza Fashion Empire is redefining luxury by merging elevated craftsmanship with conscious environmental stewardship.

“Rooted in its name Bloza, inspired by Blossom and Blaze, the brand symbolises growth, transformation, and the bold creative energy to reimagine Africa’s fashion future.

“The event billed for Dec.6 in Abuja will spotlight: eco-friendly and ethically sourced fabrics, cultural and upcycled couture aimed at reducing textile waste.”

Onomen explained that the fashion show would also showcase low-waste production processes that minimised environmental footprint, high-quality, durable garments curated to discourage fast-fashion habits and capacity-building for young designers on sustainable fashion techniques.

She reiterated the brand’s vision “sustainability is not a trend for us, it’s a responsibility.”

She noted that with classic fusion, Bloza Fashion Empire would show that African creativity could lead the world in eco-conscious innovation without losing elegance or cultural depth.

This, she said, would assuage the recurring consumer concerns in the Nigerian fashion sector which included: inconsistent delivery timelines, poor finishing, incorrect fabric use, inexperienced tailors, and excessive textile waste.

“Bloza Fashion Empire is responding with a sustainability-driven framework rooted in strict adherence to production timelines, zero tolerance for material misuse and ethical staffing and expert craftsmanship.

“This model strengthens the brand’s mission to promote quality, longevity, and environmental responsibility,” she said.

Reflecting on the new line, Onomen shared her creative motivation, adding that the showcase would not just be about clothing, but also a celebration of vision, talent, cultural identity, and the endless possibilities within Nigerian fashion.

“Each piece speaks to African strength, identity, and beauty. We are integrating waste-reducing methods, conscious cuts, and repurposing remnants into accessories, appliqués, trims, and patchwork. It’s a small step, but it is how we recycle ‘waste’ into beauty.”

“This line blends cultural heritage with modern tailoring, social responsibility, and everyday wear. We are deliberate about creating long-lasting, thoughtful pieces — not fast fashion.”

Onomen said she started fashion out of passion and an abysmal love for style, craft, and expression.

She added that although she faced the struggles every entrepreneur went through like cost pressures, supply chain setbacks, and the challenge of building a standout brand, her resilience led her to a physical studio, a loyal community, the training of young creatives, and now the maiden Classic Fusion Fashion Show.

“Envisioned as a convergence point for cultural expression and eco-conscious innovation, the Classic Fusion Fashion Show aims to spark a continent-wide conversation on responsible fashion.

“Our goal is to create fashion that lasts — fashion that respects the earth. Classic Fusion is more than an event; it is the beginning of a movement.” (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
