The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) has honoured some Nigerians for their outstanding service to God, the Church, and humanity.
The event held in Abuja, at the 32nd Triennial Assembly which also marked the council’s 96th anniversary.
Among the distinguished awardees were the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu; former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh.
Others are the Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Sen. Ita Inyang, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, and Leah Sharibu, who was unable to attend as she is still being held captive.
Sharibu was recognised in spirit, and her award was received by her mother, Mrs Rebecca Sharibu.
The CCN President, Most Rev. David Onuoha, used the occasion to pray for her safe return and thanked her parents for raising her to be a devoted child of God.
“I extend our thanks to your husband for all the good things you did in the life of this child.
“God will protect her wherever she is and she will continually influence every generation from now on as a committed, devoted and dedicated child of God,” he said.
He announced that the award was accompanied by a cash sum of N500,000, a gesture of support to the family.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, the First Lady who was represented by Adegbite, thanked the body of Christ for finding her worthy of the award.
She described the event as a spiritual battle for the nation’s soul.
The CAN President, Okoh, also made announcement of financial support, pledging two million Naira on behalf of his church and an additional one million Naira as personal donation.
Also, a representative from the Christian Advocates of Nigeria, a team of lawyers providing legal defence for the faithful, led by Gadzama offered a donation of one million Naira to support the council’s vital work.
The CCN President appreciated the donors and encouraged them to continue supporting the work of the Church.
The theme of the assembly was “God’s Demand for Justice and Righteousness,” and the CCN President emphasised the importance of justice and righteousness in promoting peace and stability in the nation. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
