The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV), have lauded the new security measures announced by President Bola Tinubu, saying they will decisively address Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, TMV Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe said the measures represented a major step in restructuring the nation’s security architecture.
TMV highlighted the President’s swift response to recent terrorist attacks, including those at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger, and Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi, as a demonstration of firm leadership.
The group said it was particularly impressed that President Tinubu personally oversaw the rescue of the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls, reflecting his hands-on approach to national security challenges.
TMV also welcomed the President’s directive for the Army and Police to recruit more personnel to strengthen the fight against terrorism, emphasising the importance of a well-resourced security apparatus.
The group expressed support for the directive to the Department of State Services (DSS) to deploy forest guards to flush out terrorists hiding in the nation’s forests.
Enekwechi hailed the President for urging the National Assembly to empower willing states to establish state police, noting it would strengthen localised security and enhance law enforcement effectiveness.
He further welcomed the call for herders’ associations to embrace ranching through the Ministry of Livestock Development, describing it as a sustainable alternative to open grazing that could reduce conflicts.
TMV added that the measures were holistic and, if faithfully implemented, would significantly help in addressing insecurity across the country.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
