Senators and House of Representatives members have harped on the need to continue to pray for peace in Nigeria.

The lawmakers, who came together to celebrate the 2025 Christmas Carol organised by the Christian Legislators’ Fellowship in the National Assembly, prayed God to guide all leaders in the right direction.

In his exhortation, one of the lawmakers, Rep. Amos Magaji, Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Health, said the birth of Jesus Christ brought about peace, joy and restoration.

He harped on the need for all Nigerians irrespective of religion, social standing and ethnicity to embrace peace.

Speaking on the theme, “Oh Come Let us Adore Him” the lawmaker urged Christians to reflect on the significance of Christmas in their daily lives.

While taking his reflection from the Book of Luke Chapter two,
Magaji said “Many years ago, a prophecy came that a virgin shall conceive and bring forth a child and His name shall be called Jesus and He shall deliver His people from their sins.

He said,”Jesus came to bring joy to mankind. In Him we live, in Him we move, in Him we have our being and we can do nothing except through him.

“He came to save, He came to bring, life, hope and direction,” Magaji said.

The lawmaker urged Christians to remain steadfast no matter the challenge.

He said, “If Jesus was a prophecy that came to reality, whatever God has spoken concerning you shall also come to pass.”

Sen. Ipalibo Banigo, Chairperson, Senate Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary), thanked the organising committee for putting the event together.

While thanking God for witnessing yet another Christmas Carol, Banigo, a former Deputy Governor of Rivers, said Christmas season was a period of deep reflection.

“This is the season the Lord has made and I know we will all encounter Him specially as individuals, as families, as a National Assembly and as a nation.

“God will visit us and save this country Nigeria as Jesus remains the joy of the whole world.

“He is the wonderful Councilor, Everlasting God, Prince of Peace,” she said.

The Secretary, Christian Legislators’ Fellowship, Rep. Bamidele Salami, admonished all Christians to remain steadfast in their commitment to the service of God and humanity.

Salami, Chairman, House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee (PAC), prayed to God to keep Nigeria united in order to continue to foster national growth and development.

Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, Sen. Anthony Yaro,
called for concerted effort to tackle the various challenges bedeviling the nation.

He said the period of Christmas called for sober reflection on the need to foster unity and peace in the country.

The Carol, had in attendance several lawmakers including Sen. Diket Plang, Rep. Leke Abejide among others.

Also, in attendance were the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the Senate, Dr Anietie Ukpe, and a large number of National Assembly Management Staff among others.(NAN)
