The One Meal a Day for the Children Initiative (OMDCI), has pledged its commitment to improving food intake of needy children and women, to foster better living.

Founder of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mrs Ijeoma Nwokpoku, made this known during an outreach on Monday at Amudo in Aguinyima Community of Ezza-Sourh Local Government Area.

Nwokpoku explained that the drive is to ensure that every child have access to at least one nutritious meal daily, in a bid to eliminate hunger.

She added that the intervention is focused on vulnerable children, women and elderly.

“This outreach marks our first charity outreach for 2026 as we step into the year with purpose, ensuring that no child goes hungry and no woman is forgotten.

“Apart from food, we offer hope and remind them that they are seen and valued,” she said

She also noted that the initiative is self-funding, including contributions from families and friends.

According to her, the organisation had sponsored three university graduates from the community and others still in school.

She added that the body had also supported widows, the elderly as well as assisted indigent patients to offset their medical bills.

Nwokpoku said that the organisation is active in the 36 states, including the federal capital territory, with a vision to build a society where no child goes to bed hungry.

On the challenges, she identified paucity of fund as being a major drawback hindering effective service of the group, and called for aassistance from good spirited individuals.

In his remarks, the Legal Adviser of the organisation, Mr Nathaniel Nwokpoku expressed confidence that the body will remain committed in ensuring that the less privileged get access to food.

Delivering a health talk, a nurse Mrs Ukamaka Nwafor, urged members on the need to eat natural and healthy food as well as sufficient water intake for overall well-being.

Reacting to the initiative, two beneficiaries, Mrs Oluchukwu Nwuzor and Mr Chukwuma Anyigor expressed gratitude to the founder, describing the support as life line that would help families in need.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event featured medical outreach, distribution of food, educational materials, wrappers among other relief materials. NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
