A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Greater Kwara Foundation, in Ilorin distributed food items and other welfare packs to four orphanages in Kwara.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme, tagged: “Renewed Hope Orphanage Tour,” includes visits to four orphanages and child-care homes.

Speaking during the tour, Dr Oluwatoyin Tajudeen-Alabi, who represented the foundation, said the initiative was aimed at supporting President Bola Tinubu’s vision of reaching out to vulnerable groups across the country, particularly children.

He described Tinubu as someone who is deeply passionate about the well-being of children in Nigeria, saying the initiative reflects Tinubu’s concern for vulnerable Nigerians, particularly children.

“We are here on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to show that his heart is with you,” he said.

Tajudeen-Alabi, who is also the CEO of Promise Foods Limited, added that the foundation brought food items and cash to support the proper feeding, comfort, and well-being of the children.

“Throughout the year, this support will continue across the nooks and crannies of the state,” he said.

In her remarks, the Kwara Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Afolashade Oluwakemi, praised the foundation, stating that the initiative complements Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s social welfare agenda.

The commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Women Development in the ministry, Mrs Medinat Idris, noted that the humanitarian gesture aligns with the Child Rights Act, which mandates the protection of every child’s dignity.

She noted that the Children Reception Centre under the Ministry of Social Development serves as a safe haven for children who were brought there for protection.

Similarly, Mrs Jayeola Olawumi, officer in charge of the children reception centre, commended the intervention and described it as timely, especially given the rise in welfare demands.

In her response, Mrs Precious Ajayi, an official of the City of Refuge Orphanage, Gaa-Akanbi, described the gesture as “strengthening the morale and improving childcare delivery.”

NAN reports that some of the orphanages visited include Takasko Life Care Initiative, Children Reception Centre, Ministry of Social Development, City of Refuge Orphanage and Safe Haven Home.

Some of the food items distributed included noodles, rice, semovita, spaghetti, toiletries and cash. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
