The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has successfully conducted a two-day capacity-building training for 15 drivers of the chamber, through its Business Skills and Technology (BEST) Centre.
At the Capacity Building Programme on Friday in Abuja, Dr Tinuke Temitope, Director, ACCI BEST Centre, said that the training was designed to enhance drivers’ safety awareness, professionalism and technical competence.
Temitope said that the theme of the training titled was, “Driving to Safety: Defensive Driving and Vehicle Handling Techniques”.
According to her, the training was meant to reinforce ACCI’s commitment to staff development and road safety.
She said that the participants were also trained on hazard recognition and space management, with practical insights on identifying road risks, anticipating the actions of other road users and maintaining safe following distances.
“The training featured comprehensive sessions on defensive driving principles, the roles and responsibilities of professional drivers and the importance of drivers serving as ambassadors of their organisations.
“Additional sessions focused on professional conduct and effective communication, highlighting discipline, emotional intelligence, stress management, and responsible behavior while driving,’’ she said.
The director said that the participants had interactive group discussions, adding that such would offer them opportunities to share experiences, ask questions, and apply newly acquired skills to real-life driving situations.
She said that the programme equipped participants with essential competencies in defensive driving, vehicle handling, hazard management and post-incident response.
“Through practical engagement and expert-led discussions, drivers strengthened their safety awareness and ability to manage real-world driving challenges effectively.’’
She said that applying the knowledge gained would significantly improve their professionalism, efficiency and safety performance on the road.
She urged the participants to pay close attention to the sessions and apply the knowledge gained in their daily driving activities. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
