Abuja, Jan. 21, 2026 (NAN) The African Union (AU) has announced that it will hold its 48th Ordinary Session Executive Council (ExC) meeting on Feb. 11 and 12 at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This is contained in a statement issued on the AU’s website on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Council is one of AU’s principal policy organs comprising member states’ Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
It is responsible for coordinating and taking policy decisions in areas of common interest to member states.
The ExC is also responsible for preparing items for consideration by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
According to the statement, the ExC will consider the Report of the 51st Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) and deliberate on AU participation in the G20.
It will also conduct elections and appointments to AU organs and institutions.
The ExC will further review the implementation of its decision on the Skills Audit and Competency Assessment (SACA) process, consider draft legal instruments and institutional governance matters.
This process is the AU’s key institutional reform for matching its staff skills to a new structure aimed at enhancing efficiency through merit-based placements. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
