The Guards Brigade Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the security of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the protection of key national assets, as it hosted the West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 in Abuja.
The pledge was made on Saturday by the Commander, Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, during the colourful ceremony held at Mambilla Barracks, Abuja.
Onasanya said the brigade had recorded significant operational achievements in the past year through sustained day-and-night domination of its area of responsibility, intelligence-led operations and effective collaboration with other security agencies in the FCT.
According to him, guards brigade troops played critical roles in securing the Presidency, safeguarding strategic installations and maintaining stability within the FCT and its environs, in line with the mandate of the Nigerian Army.
He stated that the successes recorded were a result of professionalism, intensive training and the high morale of officers and soldiers, despite the demanding nature of their assignments, which often kept them away from their families for extended periods.
The commander assured the residents of the FCT of the brigade’s continued vigilance, stressing that troops would remain resolute in confronting emerging security threats and supporting ongoing internal security operations.
He also acknowledged the support of the Presidency, the Ministry of Defence, the Office of the National Security Adviser, Defence Headquarters and the Army Headquarters, adding that their guidance and encouragement were instrumental to the Brigade’s achievements.
The Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, represented the President Bola Tinubu, at the event, which featured cultural displays showcasing Nigeria’s diverse heritage, raffle draws and the presentation of awards to outstanding soldiers and units.
The annual WASA, an age-long tradition of the Nigerian Army, is aimed at fostering unity, esprit de corps and camaraderie among personnel, while providing an opportunity to review achievements and renew commitment to future operational tasks. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
