Bwari (Abuja), Jan. 26, 2026 (NAN) The APC Chairmanship Candidate in Bwari Area Council, Mr Haruna Shekwolo, has expressed willingness to make necessary sacrifices to win the FCT area council election scheduled for Feb. 21.
The chairmanship candidate, popularly known as Audi, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
NAN reports that Shekwolo, alongside his vice- chairmanship candidate, Mr Hassan Mohammed, are contesting the election on the APC platform.
He said that he had the support of his people from the onset, adding that they had given him all the backing needed to secure victory at the poll.
Shekwolo maintained that he would not succumb to what he called the challenges and political pressure and back out of the race, as his supporters believed in him, his antecedents and shared vision.
The chairmanship candidate said that his experience at the FCT Area Council Service Commission had further boosted his readiness for the task ahead.
While enumerating his manifesto, Shekwolo promised to improve on the livelihood of the people and provide better infrastructure, healthcare services, welfare for teachers, security and a cleaner environment in the area council.
“As a former Supervisory Councillor for Environmental Sanitation in the council area, I’ve been exposed to the realisation of the need for social-corporate responsibility.
“I used this drive to facilitate some infrastructural developments in Ushafa community and hope to extend this move to upgrade other community roads, healthcare centres, schools, water system and rural electrification,” he said.
The chairmanship candidate also stressed the need to improve the palaces and work spaces of the district heads in the area council for better discharge of their duties.
Others, he stated, were empowerment of market women and small traders through loan provisions and other incentives as well as provision of farm inputs to farmers in the area to boost productivity.
Shekwolo also promised to improve on the security of the area through collaborative efforts with security agencies, vigilance groups and hunters in order to give community members a peaceful and serene environment to live.
According to him, this has become necessary in order for development to thrive and for residents of the council area to go on with their daily activities without any fear.
He also said that if elected, he would ensure a stronger collaboration with religious leaders within the area, with the sole aim of ensuring unity and peaceful coexistence among residents.
“If elected, my administration will give priority to school infrastructure and learning process to encourage teaching and learning in public schools.
“We cannot continue to have pupils sitting on the floor in classrooms whose rooftops have been blown away. This is a long time challenge that needs immediate attention and we hope to do the needful soon,” he said.
Shekwolo also promised to facilitate power supply to three wards in the council, namely If, Where and Kawu, which he said had had no light for years.
For transparency and accountability, the chairmanship candidate promised to hold regular town hall meetings to give room for dialogue between community leaders and the residents and drive progress.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
