Plateau to gain more with Muftwang defection to APC -Democracy group

Abuja, Jan. 26, 2026 (NAN) A socio-political group, Plateau Vanguard for Democracy (PVD) says Plateau stands to gain more with the defection of Gov. Caleb Muftwang to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Christopher Ishaku, Chairman of the group said this on Monday in Abuja at a media briefing ahead of the formal reception of Mutfwang into the APC).
He outlined the enormous benefits the state stood to gain from the governor’s defection, and urged stakeholders to embrace the development as a turning point for unity and progress.
Ishaku also called on political leaders, residents and all stakeholders in the state to view the governor’s alignment with the ruling party as an opportunity to end years of divisive politics and channel energies towards peace, development and inclusive governance.
He described the defection as a strategic realignment that could transform political rivalry into collaboration for the greater good of the state.
According to him, we should see this moment as one in which valuable assets that have been deployed in political brinkmanship will now be channeled toward the development of Plateau.
The PVD chairman emphasised that bringing together the governor’s political structure and former rivals in the APC would create a stronger, more unified platform to tackle the state’s longstanding challenges.
“The defection of the governor will consolidate the different tendencies in the state into a cohesive body that will ultimately make Plateau better.
“Plateau’s advancement depends more on cooperation among leaders than on rigid party loyalties.
“The new political configuration will drive strategic unity and a renewed focus on tangible governance results,” he said.
Ishaku added that the evolving landscape presented a rare catalyst for healing divisions, fostering inclusive leadership and delivering real improvements in security, economy and infrastructure for
residents.
Mutfwang who has already received his APC membership card, has also pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
