The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to restoring lasting peace and stability in Benue.

Oluyede gave the assurance on Friday in Abuja while receiving the Gov. Hyacinth Alia, on a courtesy visit at the Defence Headquarters.

The Director of Defence Information,Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Oluyede said that improved collaboration with stakeholders was yielding positive security outcomes.

He expressed satisfaction with the relative improvement in security across parts of the state, attributing the gains to enhanced synergy among the military, other security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and the state government.

The CDS said sustainable peace was achievable through sustained cooperation, trust and inclusive engagement.

He added that plans were underway to establish a structured interface between the AFN and the Benue State Government to strengthen coordination and consolidate security gains.

Oluyede also underscored the importance of non-kinetic approaches, including rehabilitation, reintegration and livelihood support programmes, to complement security efforts and discourage relapse into criminal activities.

Earlier, Gov. Alia congratulated the CDS on his appointment and commended the Armed Forces for their sustained efforts in restoring stability in Benue, noting that the improved security situation had reassured residents and renewed hope for lasting peace.

The governor reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to deepen partnership with the Defence Headquarters to address security challenges, particularly in the Sankera axis comprising Katsina-Ala, Zaki Biam and Logo Local Government Areas.

The governor was accompanied by senior officials of the Benue State Government while top military officers from the Defence Headquarters were in attendance. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
