China, Nigeria exchange congratulations on 55th anniversary of ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday exchanged congratulatory messages with his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his message, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 55 years ago.

Wang stated that China and Nigeria have consistently supported each other, even with changes in the international landscape.

He said the friendship between the two countries has endured across distance and is deeply rooted among their peoples.

Wang noted that since the two sides established a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024, political mutual trust has deepened, cooperation across multiple sectors has delivered tangible results, and coordination on international and regional affairs has grown closer.

He expressed China’s willingness to work with Nigeria to strengthen exchanges between the two foreign ministries and explore the China-Nigeria Intergovernmental Committee mechanism.

According to him, they will also implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state.

Wang said advancing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation would help elevate the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

Tuggar said Nigeria and China have maintained a friendly and mutually beneficial relationship since diplomatic ties were established, with cooperation continuing to deepen across various fields.

He described China as an important strategic partner for Nigeria and said Abuja is committed to expanding bilateral exchanges while exploring new areas of cooperation.

Tuggar said this approach aligns with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and reflects the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership and achieving mutually beneficial results.

Tuggar added that he looks forward to the continued consolidation of friendship and cooperation between the two countries to ensure that bilateral ties deliver greater benefits to both peoples. (Xinhua/NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
