Abuja, Feb. 10, 2026 (NAN) National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) has described the death of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Sylvester Shikyil, SAN, as a great loss.

The Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, expressed profound sadness over Shikyil’s death, noting that he lived a life of impactful scholarship and mentorship.

The expression of grief is contained in a condolence statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the director-general’s media adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri.

Sulaiman said that the late senior lawyer was an accomplished academic whose career spanned decades, raising the bar of jurisprudence and advancing humanity through unwavering commitment to excellence.

He said the deceased would be remembered as a great scholar who wrote his cherished name in gold for posterity.

“This was achieved in the annals of the Policy and Advocacy Research Project, PARP, which later birthed the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.

“The late legal luminary, respected researcher and fine gentleman will be missed for his towering contributions to nation building and development across Nigeria and Africa,” he remarked.

While praying to God to repose his gentle soul, Sulaiman urged family and loved ones to find solace in the students he inspired.

According to him, the late professor’s enormous achievements and enduring legacies in law and passion for justice will continue to inspire generations across Nigeria and beyond.

Sulaiman said that the late legal luminary’s life embodied integrity, generosity, honesty and humility, endearing him to peers as a distinguished role model within the academic legal circle.(NAN)
