The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) Mrs Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, has commended the association’s humanitarian interventions over the past year, describing them as transformative for military families across the country.
Shaibu, wife of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), stated this while addressing members at the NAOWA General Meeting on Friday in Abuja.
She said the association’s programmes had directly impacted thousands of beneficiaries, particularly widows and vulnerable households.
“Our efforts over the past year have touched thousands of military families. From supporting widows to empowering vulnerable households, NAOWA remains committed to impactful service,” she said.
NAOWA president highlighted ongoing welfare initiatives, vocational training schemes and cooperative projects aimed at promoting economic independence among spouses of personnel.
According to her, the interventions have strengthened self-reliance and enhanced financial stability within military communities.
“We have seen lives changed positively, and families empowered to thrive independently,” she added.
Shaibu also stressed the need for unity, accountability and effective implementation of resolutions reached at the General Meeting, urging chapters nationwide to convert plans into measurable outcomes.
“Every Chapter must translate plans into action, ensuring transparency and fostering collaboration for the collective good of our association,” she said.
She expressed appreciation to members for their dedication and discipline, noting that sustained commitment was critical to expanding the association’s humanitarian reach.
“Your service and compassion ensure that our programmes continue to reach those who need them most,” she said.
In a keynote lecture at the meeting, an educationist, Dr Nefisat Dada, emphasised the importance of meticulousness and empathy within the association, noting that strong families and communities were built on mutual care and intentional action.
Dada observed that many people often underestimate those around them, stressing that raising children and sustaining homes require collective responsibility.
“No one succeeds alone. Every person you meet is important, and overlooking someone may mean missing a future blessing,” she said.
Dada further described meticulousness as the quality of being extremely careful and attentive to detail, urging members to be mindful in their words and actions.
According to her, simple gestures such as a smile or respectful greeting can significantly uplift others and strengthen unity within the association.
The AGM commenced on Thursday with the meeting of the NOAWA executives from across units and formations of the Nigerian Army.
The meeting focused on deliberations on the humanitarian and developmental interventions of the association across barracks and way forward. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
