The First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening women’s resilience across Africa.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Kwapchi Bata-Hamman, Special Assistant to the President (Media and ICT), Office of the Vice President, on Saturday in Abuja.
The statement said the commitment was reiterated at the 30th General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OFLAD).
It noted that the Assembly, which opened on Feb. 11, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was held on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union.
According to the statement, Mrs Tinubu was represented at the event by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima.

It added that the First Lady reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for collaborative, gender-responsive strategies aimed at enhancing resilience and promoting sustainable futures for women and girls.
The statement explained that technical meetings reviewed internal matters and advanced OFLAD’s strategic priorities, particularly in the areas of gender equality, climate action and conflict response.
It further said outcomes of the technical sessions were deliberated upon during a closed meeting on Feb. 14, with recommendations prepared for adoption.
The open session of the Assembly is scheduled for Feb. 15, with the theme: “Building Resilience for Women and Girls: Climate, Conflict, and Sustainable Futures.”
OFLAD President, Mrs Fatima Maada-Bio, described the Assembly as a platform for experience-sharing and capacity building among African First Ladies. (NAN)
