Lagos, Feb. 14, 2026 (NAN) The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has elected a former Lagos State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr James Adeshina, as its new State Chairman.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adeshina emerged via consensus and affirmation method at the state congress, held on Saturday in Alimosho.
NAN reports that the congress, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also elected nine other members of the State Executive Committee.
The 10-member committee will run the affairs of the party in the state for the next three years.
Leading the PRP national delegation, Mr Oluwole Adeniyi, a member of the party’s Electoral Planning Committee, applauded the peaceful comportment of all delegates at the congress.
Adeniyi, who represented the Chairman of the Congress Committee and National Youth Leader of the party, Mr Wolimoh Olajide, expressed confidence that PRP would soon become very popular in the state.
He said that the exercise marked a milestone in the party’s re-organisation process ahead of 2027.
“We know that sooner or later people will know about this party because it is a credible platform with pure motive to serve the people and fulfill their yearnings.
“The party is going to grow in leaps and bounds. We want to advise all excos to roll up their sleeves and be committed to propagating the party,” Adeniyi said.
Adeniyi, who first announced the dissolution of the state caretaker committee after the motion was moved and seconded by delegates, affirmed the election of the new 10-member executive committee via consensus.
Other members of the executive committee that emerged include Ms Funmilayo Akinyemi (Vice Chairman); Mr Olanrewaju Alaska (Secretary); Alhaja Mulikat Abolore-Yusuf (Woman Leader) and Mrs Chioma Okoli (Treasurer).
The others are Mrs Rahmot Adeola-Olowe (Financial Secretary); Mr Akinwunmi Onigbinde (Publicity Secretary); Mr Clement Obarise (Organising Secretary); Mrs Funmilayo Michael (Assistant Organising Secretary) and Mr Abiodun Taiwo (Assistant Publicity Secretary)
Responding, Adeshina, erstwhile Lagos State Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC), said that PRP remained a credible platform for aspiring politicians to actualise their political ambition.
Adeshina, who was the caretaker chairman of the PRP until the congress, said that the newly state executive would work with the ward and local government executives to project the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said that the exco would pilot the affairs of with integrity, honesty and winning mind.
Adeshina said: “I want to thank all delegates for choosing me to lead this party. I am giving you my word that I will serve diligently and collaboratively to brighten the electoral fortune of this party.
“With the support of all members we can take over Lagos State. I need your support. We are building the structure of the PRP in Lagos State. We are activating this party.
“We are here for the good of the people and the electorate. We are going to present popular candidates that will bring about people oriented, best governance like never before in the state.’
He urged the party members to project the party at every polling, wards and local government without fear or intimidation.
“Sell this party to people at every corner of Lagos State , Let us tell them to join us in redeeming Lagos together.
“People are tired of bad governance and suffering, they are looking for a credible alternative and PRP is available to them,” he added.
He urged Nigerians, especially the educated ones, to stop regarding politics as a dirty game,, advising them to change their mind and join PRP to redeem the state and the country.
“People must change their minds about politics and use their time, talents and treasures to make Nigeria great.
“Nobody should regard any party as unpopular. PRP offers itself as a party for the true lovers of the state and the country.
“I am looking forward to seeing a migration and political movement into PRP that will win in Lagos. We are putting all our efforts in building the party.
“We want people to join the party now, work for the party and enjoy the benefit and all the privileges therein.
“We must serve this party and be loyal to it in order to make the state and Nigeria. This is a true party, a credible alternative for the young and old politicians to grow and actualise dream,” Adeshina said.
He urged members to get registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) by INEC to obtain Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to vote during elections.
It would be recalled that PRP had on Dec. 16, 2025 conducted its Ward and Local Government Congresses in the state. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
