Ramadan: Sen. Wamakko donates food, utilities to 1,787 IDPs in Sokoto

Sokoto, Feb. 15, 2026 (NAN) Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC–Sokoto North), on Saturday donated foodstuffs and other utilities to no fewer than 1,787 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

 

 

 

Wamakko, represented by his Director of Administration, Alhaji Al-Mustapha Abubakar, said the gesture was to support the IDPs as they prepared for the approaching Ramadan fasting.

 

 

 

He said the Items would be distributed across nine IDP camps identified within the state metropolis.

 

 

 

The former Governor, who spoke at the inauguration ceremony at his Constituency office in Sokoto, said the gesture was part of his regular commitment to complement government’s efforts in alleviating the economic hardship faced by IDPs.

 

 

 

“We have made a commitment to ensure that the living conditions of IDPs are adequately taken care of.

 

“We will continue to identify with them by providing their needs to ease their situation.

 

 

 

“The state and Federal Government are aware of your current situation and remain committed to ensuring your safety.

 

 

 

“I want to assure you that your present condition is not permanent. Soon, you will return to your homes and reunite with your families and loved ones,” he said.

 

 

 

Wamakko explained that the items for distribution included 200 bags of rice and maize, 400 bags of millet, 3,560 pieces of clothing materials for women, children and men, 100 cartons of vegetable oil and seasoning, and 70 bags of salt.

 

 

 

Other utilities included tomato mix, blankets, casseroles and mosquito nets.

He sympathised with the beneficiaries and encouraged them to continue praying for the government’s commitment to restoring peace in their respective communities.
