Abuja, Feb.16, 2026(NAN) The ActionAid, Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room and other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have called for real-time electronic transmission of election results for transparency and credible elections.

They made the call on Monday in Abuja at a planned coordinated, evidence-based and citizen-driven advocacy at the National Assembly.

The programme was to sustain momentum for the passage and effective implementation of the 2022 Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill.

Mr Andrew Mamedu, Country Director, ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) specifically urged the Conference Committee to retain the provision of “mandatory real-time electronic transmission of electronic results from polling unit to IReV.’

He specifically identified real-time mandatory electronic transmission of electronic election result without condition as the only way the people’s votes would count.

Mamedu said the version was adopted by the House of Representatives in the electoral amendment bill.

He specifically urged the leadership and members of the conference committee to demonstrate the statesmanship of all principles and act in the overall interest of the Nigerian people.

Mamedu described the version passed by the senate as representing a significant departure from progressive report agreed upon by the joint National Assembly Committee on Electoral matters.

“Rather than signing electoral framework ahead of the 2027 general election, the senate amendment weaken critical safeguard necessary for transparency, credibility and public trust in the electoral process.

“On the other hand, the House of Representative passed a version that is progressive and in line with the mandate of the people.

“The House of Rep has spoken our voice which is the voice of the people and the voice of God.

“We demand the final version of Electoral Act as amended bill of 2026 reflecting the progressive consensus reached through stakeholders engagement strengthens rather than undermine Nigeria democratic process,”he said.

Mamedu further recommended the preservation of the 360 days notice of election timeline provided by the Electoral Act of 2022.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that his speech entitled: “Our position on the Electoral Act Amendment,” was endorsed by ActionAid, Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room Movement for the Transformation of Nigeria, other CSOs .

NAN also reports that some of the inscriptions on the protesters banners and placard reads; “Make Electronic Transmission Mandatory Now, Protect the Will of the people.
