A faith-based Islamic organisation, Igbomina/Ekiti Muslim Forum (IEMF), has enjoined Nigerians to use the Holy Month of Ramadan to seek divine intervention on insecurity challenges in Nigeria.
The President of the Forum, Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim, made the call in Ilorin while speaking on the sidelines of the 2026 Annual Ramadan Lecture.
The theme of the lecture is entitled: “Igbomina/Ekiti Muslims and National Security.”
Ibrahim called for increased security measures in Nigeria, citing rising insecurity as a major concern.
The call was made amidst growing concerns over attacks on farms, highways, and forest communities in Igbomina Land.
According to him, security is a moral obligation while urging Muslims to engage in peace-building efforts.
The president also enjoined Muslims to dedicate their lives towards righteousness and God-consciousness.
“The lesson of Ramadan must abide with us always. We should work towards what is prescribed by Allah,” he said.
In his lecture, the Chief Missioner of Igbomina Ekiti Muslim Forum, Alhaji Salaudeen AbdulQuadri, said that Nigerians must use Ramadan as a period of repentance and also pray fervently on insecurity in Nigeria.
“We have to be dedicated to Allah, read the Quran and re-dedicate to the worship of Almighty Allah. You must work first and pray for divine intervention,” he said.
AbdulQuadri, who is also the Chief Imam of Olanrewaju Mosque, observed that the Igbomina Ekiti Community is a closely knitted society that values hard work.
He explained that the community has traditionally been agrarian but lamented that ongoing insecurity has made it impossible for residents to access their farms.
The cleric warned that Islam strongly condemns insecurity and emphasised the need for the country to take preventive measures against actions that could disunite the nation.
Speaking on the importance of Ramadan, AbdulQuadri explained that the month is a period of reflection.
“Islam is a complete way of life that uses Ramadan to rejuvenate people and make whole the society,” he said.
He cautioned adherents to avoid anger and refrain from fighting during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
AbdulQuadri commended mothers for their dedication to the family and children, while emphasising that fasting is a blessing for humanity, a period of cleanliness.
He cautioned the faithful against abusing the sanctity of the Holy Month of Ramadan, stressing that those who fail to abandon evil deeds during the period risk losing Allah’s mercy. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
