Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc has announced that residents and businesses in parts of Benin City will experience daily electricity outages for more than one month starting Friday due to planned transmission maintenance.
In a public notice, BEDC said the disruption would enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria to undertake critical construction works on the 330kV Benin–Ajaokuta Transmission Line 2 at the Ihovbor Transmission Station.
The maintenance exercise, scheduled from Feb. 27 to March 31, is expected to affect electricity supply across multiple communities served by key feeders connected to the Ihovbor transmission facility in Edo State.
According to the company, power supply will be interrupted daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the construction period, with electricity restored at the end of each day’s scheduled work.
BEDC said areas along the University of Benin axis, Ugbowo, Oluku, Upper Sakponba, Ihovbor and Egba corridors would be affected due to the temporary shutdown of feeders linked to the project.
The company clarified that the outage was not related to service faults but formed part of broader efforts to strengthen transmission infrastructure and improve long-term electricity reliability across its franchise area.
“We regret any inconvenience this planned outage may cause and assure stakeholders that the works are essential to boost transmission capacity, increase grid energy and enhance overall service reliability,” BEDC stated.
The distribution firm appealed for customers’ patience and cooperation during the maintenance period, assuring that normal electricity supply will resume daily once construction activities are suspended each evening. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
