Drone Misfire: Farmers demand investigation, compensation for victims
By Bashir Rabe Mani
The Nigerian Farmers Supreme Council (NIFSCON) has called for thorough investigations into the Tudun Biri drone attacks in Igabi Local Government of Kaduna State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that its National President, Dr Aliyu Muhammad-Waziri, made the call when he addressed newsmen in Kaduna on Saturday.
” We have 20 million members in Nigeria, with some of them among the victims of the mistaken drone attacks in the Tudun Biri community.
“I am therefore tendering our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and praying to the Almighty Allah to grant them Aljannat Firdaus.
“I am also beseeching Him to grant speedy recovery to the injured ones and for Him to give the bereaved families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.”
Muhammad-Waziri emphasised the need for the findings of the investigations to be made public and action taken against the lively culprits.
While lamenting that such obnoxious mistakes were always dubbed as mistakes were recurring, he said, “adequate compensation must be paid to the victims.”
He, however, commended President Bola Tinubu for expressing his deepest concerns on the incident and promised a thorough probe of the incident and coming to the aid of the victims.
Muhammad-Waziri further lauded Gov. Uba Sani for taking swift actions on the incident and the pledge to ensure justice for the victims.
” We have accepted the apology of the military that the incident was a mistake as we all make mistakes.
“However, the military and other security agencies should employ more caution while conducting similar operations in the future to avoid such costly mistakes.
“There is also the need for more training and retaining of their personnel and the deployment of modern surveillance equipment in their operations to avoid such unpalatable colossal damages.
“I am however appealing to the Muslim Ummah not to take the law into their hands, but they should allow the law to take its due course.
“ We strongly insist that justice should be done to the victims as promised by President Tinubu and Gov. Sani.” (NAN). (www.nannews.ng)
