A driver affiliated with an e-hailing company, Mr Kingsley Benson, successfully intervened on Monday to save a passenger who appeared to be on a suicide mission in Calabar.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Benson explained that he noticed something unusual when the female passenger, whose identity is withheld, boarded his vehicle in the Bogobiri area of the city.

He recounted, “The lady requested a ride from Bogobiri this morning, but I observed she was looking really sad. I tried to initiate a conversation, and she just gave me this cold and sad smile, requesting I turn on my air conditioner.”

As the journey continued, the passenger’s unsettling statement resurfaced.

Benson’s instincts led him to scrutinise the nylon bag she was carrying, where he noticed what appeared to be bottles of sniper.

Realising the gravity of the situation, he knew immediate action was necessary.

Taking a quick decision, Benson told the passenger he needed to make a brief stop at Watt Market, but instead, he drove to the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Calabar South.

He explained, “I told her I needed to buy fuel because the hospital also has a filling station. Immediately I drove into the premises, I went straight to report what I observed.”

Upon inspection, hospital staff found sniper in the passenger’s bag, and she confessed to her intentions.

Efforts to contact the hospital management were unsuccessful, but an anonymous source confirmed the incident, stating that the girl’s relatives have been notified. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
