The Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawande, has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to take advantage of activities at their orientation camps to develop themselves positively.
Olawande said this on Monday during his visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, at the closing ceremony of NYSC Skills Acquisition Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
According to him, SAED is aimed at encouraging corps members to develop their skills, believe in themselves and believe in the unity of Nigeria.
โMany of us spend too much time on social media, we should reduce the time we spend on social media and spend more time to learn at least two skills.
โWe need to take our future in our hands, have you asked yourselves after passing out from the camp what next?.
โA lot of people learn skills online, let us start from somewhere; most people will think it is difficult to achieve but if we believe in ourselves, it is achievable,โ he said.
The minister urged the corps members to develop their skills through the Nigeria Youths Academy (NiYA).
He said that the NiYA internship programme was provided for youths to acquire more skills through free digital trainings.
โThis is the reason NiYA was set up and put with companies to make unemployment rate to come down.
Earlier, the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr Olusegun Alao, said the corps members exhibited the spirit of nationalism, dedication and resolve to serve their fatherland.
He also said that the corps members were disciplined, resourceful and resilient, โwhile the only challenge we have is shortage of water,โ (NAN)(www.nannews.com.ng)
