Excitement is building as four international golfers will slug it out with 120 others at the 12th Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Golf Competition expected to begin on  Oct. 17.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event will be played at Ikeja Golf Club, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja.

The international golfers that will grace the golf competition include: Nkous-Angy Nelson, 12-year-old from Cameroon for male category; Yvonne Dorm, 11-years female golfer, Paulo Eyram-Quarshe, 15 years male and Zanetor Dakudzu 14 years male – all from Ghana.

Jide Bolaji, the Technical Lead of the competition, told NAN that the cadet golf competition is divided into four categories: age 6–8 years will play holes per round and age 9–11 years old, with 9 holes per round.

“Other categories are age 12-13 years old, 18 holes per round (To play 2 rounds on Day 1); age 14–16 years old, 18 holes per round (To play 2 rounds on Day 1).

“All players will arrive on Friday for accreditation, while the tournament will begin on Saturday and the competition will end on Sunday,” he said.

Bolaji said that the competition would be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf by R&A and USGA and the local rules of Ikeja Golf Club as well as the event tournament rules.

He further clarified that players are advised to read the local rules of the club as contained at the back of the score card, while adults are advised to assist the children in that area.

“It is a Strokeplay event, gross play.

“The draw shall be made for each round and will be posted on the event platform and other relevant platforms.

“Adults should assist in this area. Excuse bordering on the ignorance of the draw shall not be entertained from any player.

“In the event of a tie for the winner in any of the categories, there will be a sudden death play-off starting from hole 1 until a winner emerges,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
