TotalEnergies, the major sponsor of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), on Wednesday launched the AFCON Trophy Tour in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event marked the first public appearance of the gold-plated trophy, valued at four million dollars, at the companyโ€™s headquarters in Victoria Island.

Dr Samba Seye, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc, said the tour celebrated Africaโ€™s passion for football.

He said TotalEnergies, in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), aimed to share the AFCON trophy with millions across five African countries.

โ€œThe trophy begins its exceptional journey in Lagos today, bringing together football fans to experience the excitement of Africaโ€™s biggest football event.

โ€œWe are proud to host the first stage of the tour here in Lagos to kick off the 2025 tournament. Football represents energy, joy and unity,โ€ he said.

Abdullahi Umar, General Manager, Retail and Cards, described Nigeria as a nation where football is a way of life.

โ€œThis city lives and breathes football. Nigeria has shaped African football history with legendary players and unforgettable moments,โ€ he said.

He said the trophy tour would cover Nigeria, Angola, South Africa, Cรดte dโ€™Ivoire, and Morocco, bringing the AFCON spirit to millions of fans.

โ€œWe have unveiled the official AFCON trophy in Nigeria today. Twenty-four nations will compete for this gleaming symbol of continental glory.

โ€œNigerian fans now have a rare chance to see it closely, feel the energy, and dream big. This trophy represents unity and resilience,โ€ he said.

Umar said TotalEnergiesโ€™ partnership with CAF since 2016 had strengthened its engagement with communities across Africa.

He described the visit as more than a tour, calling it a movement that reflected Nigeriansโ€™ love for football.

Mrs Olubunmi Popoola-Mordi, Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, praised Nigeriansโ€™ team spirit in supporting their national teams.

โ€œThis is about unity and bonding. We are proud the first stop is Nigeria. TotalEnergies continues to show confidence in football,โ€ she said.

Mrs Olunfunmilayo Gombe, Marketing Manager, TotalEnergies, thanked stakeholders, CAF, the National Sports Commission, and the NFF for their collaboration.

She also appreciated media partners and fans whose passion energised the game, noting Nigeriaโ€™s pride in hosting the tourโ€™s first stop.
