The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has honoured several journalists, including NAN correspondent, Ms. Ibironke Ariyo, for their outstanding contributions to accurate reporting and improved public understanding of the service’s mandate.
The awards were presented in Abuja during the opening session of a three-day capacity-building workshop for Public Relations Officers (PROs) of the service.

Speaking at the event, the NCoS Controller General, Sylvester Nwakuche, said that the gesture was aimed at recognising journalists who had demonstrated professionalism, fairness and commitment in the coverage of correctional activities across the country.
Nwakuche, who was represented by Deputy Controller General (DCG) Ado Sale, said that the NAN correspondent and others were honoured “For amplifying truth with clarity and turning stories into bridges of understanding.”
He described the media as strategic partners in promoting the service’s reforms, noting that balanced reporting had helped strengthen public trust and deepen awareness of the service’s responsibilities.
He commended the awardees for their contributions to crisis reporting, human-interest stories and consistent engagement on correctional issues, saying their work had enhanced visibility for the service.
Nwakuche urged reporters to continue upholding ethical standards and accuracy in their coverage, assuring them of the service’s readiness to maintain open and transparent communication with the media.

Ariyo, an associate member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), who covers Defence and Security-related Beats for NAN, was honoured for her sustained reportage on correctional reforms, inmate welfare and institutional transparency.
