Chanchaga Local Government in Niger has inaugurated a 15-member Transition Committee to oversee a smooth handover to the incoming administration.
Malam Isah Mohammed, Acting Chairman of the council inaugurated members of the committee in Minna on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the transition committee is being chaired by Alhaji Isah Abdulkadir, with Ibrahim Babangida as Secretary.
Mohammed said the assignment before the committee was enormous and urged members to work diligently and in the interest of the people of Chanchaga.
Secretary of the council, Alhaji Ibrahim Minjinyawa, congratulated the members, saying the Chairman-elect, Dr Mustapha Jibrin, possessed the qualities of a smart and result-oriented leader who would require a solid foundation to begin his tenure.
Abdulkadir said the committee would work with truth, diligence, transparency and courage, adding that transition exercises were essential for continuity and good governance.
He said the committee would not witch-hunt or praise-sing but present factual, objective and actionable findings to guide the new administration.
The terms of reference of the committee is to take full inventory of government assets, including buildings, vehicles, equipment, furniture and project sites.
The panel is also to examine the financial position of the local government, covering budgets, revenue sources, expenditures, debts, liabilities and ongoing projects, among others.
The committee is expected to conclude its assignment within four weeks.
Other members of the committee are Fati Abubakar, Adamu Ayawa, Apostle Solomon, Muktar Mustapha, Isa Abdullahi, Tanko Mohammed, Mohammed Babadoko, Dr D’anlami Dauda, and Muhammed Anas.
The rest are Hauwa Muhammad Manta, Aliyu Mohammed,Yakubu Baba Gaba and Mohammed Bawa Ibrahim.
NAN recalls that the Niger state Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) had on Nov. 1, conducted local government chairmanship election when Jibrin emerged as Chairman-Elect with Hajiya Safiya Nasidi as the vice chairman (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
