The Organising Committee for the fourth edition of the ‘Chaingang’ Mountain Bike (MTB) festival says the festival will promote mountain biking race and other sporting competitions in Nigeria.

The organisers of the festival said this in a statement issued by the Festival Media Committee, Chaired by Chidera Obijiofor, in Abuja on Wednesday.

Obijiofor said that the festival, scheduled to hold in Abuja on Nov. 22, would showcase the talents of the riders, runners and hikers.

He said that the objectives of the Chaingang MTB Festival included promoting an active lifestyle, fostering a sense of community, advocating for safety and environmental stewardship, and engaging in social initiatives.

He said that the festival would take riders, runners and hikers deep into Abuja’s rugged mountain terrain for a full day of outdoor competition and community activities.

“This year’s edition, woth the theme, “Be Ya Nu Abuja Pe (Let’s Go to Abuja Mountains)”, will feature mountain biking races, a trail run, and a scenic hike.

“The races include Mountain Biking Race — 42 km (Male) and 35 km (Female): A technical, pulse-raising course that threads steep singletrack, rocky ridgelines and fast, dusty descents.

“Expect punchy climbs that test legs and grit, switchbacks that demand focus and open rollers where speed meets skyline,” he said.

Obijiofor said that there would also be trail run — 20 km: An undulating route across hard-packed trails, intermittent scree and shaded gullies.

“Runners will face quick climbs, runnable downhills and panoramic summits that reward every hard-earned step.

“Day Hike — 6 km to Mpape Crushed Rocks: A scenic, accessible hike to the Mpape Crushed Rocks site. Hikers will enjoy rocky vistas, wild shrubland and photo-ready overlooks.

“VIP Race and Children’s Race at Junior Secondary School Mpape: Short, sharp sprints tailored for VIP guests and young athletes at the take off venue. Family-friendly excitement with safety marshals in clear view.”

According to him, the festival terrain is quintessential Abuja: stony outcrops, gravel-strewn tracks, red-dust climbs and open hilltops that deliver dramatic skyline views.

He said that natural obstacles, rocky shelves and seasonal washes made courses thrilling yet demanding.

“We have mapped every route with safety-first signage, medical support points and marshals positioned at technical sections.

“Beyond competition, the festival is a vibrant outdoor carnival: cultural dances that celebrate local heritage, live music to lift spirits, and ample refreshments for participants and the public,” he said.

He said that local vendors and community groups would be on-site to share food and crafts.

“All competitive entries require pre-registration and a short safety briefing. Protective gear is mandatory for mountain bikers; trail runners and hikers are advised to carry hydration and sun protection.

“Event medical teams, rescue marshals and directional signage will be active across all routes.

“Chaingang MTB Festival is committed to promoting active outdoor lifestyles, trail stewardship and road safety awareness for cyclists and trail users.” (NAN)
