Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) has charged its newly admitted students to uphold strong professional ethics and competence.
Mr Tolani Sule, Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, gave the charge at the matriculation ceremony for 768 candidates admitted for the 2025/2026 academic session on Thursday.
Sule said building a reliable health workforce begins with students embracing the values of discipline, compassion and integrity early in their training.
The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Adeniran Kasali, urged the students to remain focused and represent the institution with pride.
“It is a message you are giving yourself that you must be a good ambassador of this college as you go on in your academic journey,” he said.
The Commissioner noted that Lagos continues to lead in healthcare and education standards, making its tertiary institutions among the most sought-after in the country.
The Provost of the college, Prof. Raheem Akewushola, also reminded the matriculating students that their chosen fields demand both academic excellence and strong moral character.
“The certificate awards lie basically on academic excellence, character and integrity,” he said.
Akewushola stressed that allied health professionals must demonstrate empathy, diligence and confidentiality, especially those in health information management.
“They are custodians of patients’ information, and they must start learning now that confidentiality is non-negotiable,” the professor said.
He explained that the future success of the students would depend on their commitment to the rigorous training ahead of them.
“Diligence, hard work, passion, being detailed and thoroughness are key. Precision is very key,” the provost added. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
