A cleric, Pastor Adebisi Oluwaseyi, has urged Nigerians to show love to the less privileged in spite of the current economic situation in the country.
Oluwaseyi, a pastor with the Living Faith Church, made the call at the presentation of food items to 1,000 indigent people in Kwara by the Peter and Deborah Charity Mission, in Ilorin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distribution cut across religious inclinations, tribe and political affiliations.
The pastor said that no one has kept him or herself this year, but God and therefore people with means should extend love to the less privileged.
Oluwaseyi commended the foundation for the humanitarian gesture which he observed was an annual event.
Speaking at the event, Mr Ademola Gbenle, the founder of the mission explained that the programme is an annual event in loving memory of their late parents; Pa Peter and Madam Deborah Gbenle.
The founder, who was represented by his sister, Mrs Elizabeth Ajiboye, stated that the charity mission had been holding for the past 10 years.
“The purpose is to give food items and cash to people. It’s not a political event. He’s not doing it for any political attention or anything. He just gives to people to make them happy,” she said.
Gbenle described his parents as passionate people who were committed to the care of the indigents, adding that they were givers when they were alive.
“They showed compassion to people, and that’s what we are doing, in remembrance of their memories,” Gbenle said.
NAN reports that some of the items distributed to beneficiaries included rice, beans, vegetable oil, gari, semovita, condiments and cash. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
