Ogun Government says it has emerged as a leading implementing state under the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU), having successfully achieved the formation of a total of 2,000 Women Affinity Groups (WAGs).

The State Project Coordinator, Mrs Bolanle Fadairo, said in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday, that the feat was achieved within six weeks of full project implementation.

She described the achievement, being the statistics showcased by a national platform, Project Management Information System (PMIS), as a clear demonstration of the strong institutional readiness of the state.

She added that the state had demonstrated unwavering commitment to women empowerment under the Scale-Up phase of the project.

According to Fadairo, the feat reflects the visionary leadership and support of the present administration, as well as the political will of key stakeholders involved in the project.

She commended the strategic collaboration of the Ministries of Finance, Women Affairs and Social Development, Budget and Planning, alongside the dedication of the State Project Coordinating Unit (SPCU).

Providing a breakdown of the WAGs formation across the four implementing local government areas, Fadairo revealed that “Ijebu-Ode recorded 760 groups, accounting for 38 per cent of the total.

“Ifo LG recorded 569 groups, representing 28.45 per cent. Sagamu LG formed 378 WAGs, amounting to 18.9 per cent, while Ado-Odo/Ota recorded 293 groups, representing 14.64 per cent,” she said.
