The North East Women for Peace (NEWP) has commended the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for initiating a welfare-focused programme designed to improve the economic wellbeing of families of military personnel.
The President of NEWP, Mrs Saratu Gambo, gave the commendation in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
Gambo said the CDS, through the Defence Headquarters, sought the approval and support of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to partner financial institutions to provide soft loan schemes for spouses of service personnel at highly reduced interest rates.
She described the initiative as timely and strategic, noting that it underscored the military leadership’s commitment to the welfare of service families.
According to her, the proposed loan scheme will enable spouses of military personnel to access affordable financing, empower them economically, reduce financial stress, and promote household stability.
The group leader added that enhanced welfare for military families would have a positive impact on the morale, focus, and operational effectiveness of troops deployed across various theatres of operation.
“The sacrifices made by officers and men of the Armed Forces are enormous, and initiatives such as this go a long way in boosting morale and dedication to national service,” the statement said.
Gambo said the initiative reflected an understanding that national security extends beyond the battlefield to sustained investment in the welfare of those supporting troops from the home front.
She also commended the president for his consistent support for policies and programmes aimed at uplifting members of the armed forces and their families.
Gambo expressed optimism that the successful implementation of the soft loan scheme would set a new benchmark for military welfare interventions and further strengthen the confidence, loyalty, and fighting spirit of troops safeguarding the nation. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
