Abuja, Jan. 17, 2026 (NAN) Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NiDO)-Worldwide has lauded the Federal Government’s move to establish a comprehensive legal framework for the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data system processes in Nigeria.
Mr Chibuzo Ubochi, Chairman, NiDO Europe
and Coordinating Chairman of NiDO-Worldwide, disclosed this in a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NIDO-Worldwide is the global umbrella body for Nigerian professionals and community groups abroad.
The group focuses on leveraging diaspora skills, resources, and expertise for Nigeria’s economic and social development.
Ubochi described the move as capable of promoting AI-driven services and pathways to repositioning Nigeria in the digital world.
According to him, NiDO-Worldwide welcomes the progress of Nigeria’s National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, 2024, and calls for responsible and inclusive implementation.
He said: “NiDO-Worldwide welcomes the advancement of Nigeria’s National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill 2024.
“It is a significant legislative step toward establishing comprehensive legal framework for governance of digital technologies, including AI, data systems, and e-governance processes.
“The Bill represents an important policy effort to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy by promoting innovation, fair competition, export-oriented digital services, and the digital transformation of public institutions.”
Ubochi explained that its objectives included improving service delivery, transparency, accountability, adding that Nigeria’s participation in international digital trade aligned with global trends toward digitally enabled governance.
“As a global organisation representing Nigeria’s Diaspora across five continents, NiDO-Worldwide recognises the transformative potential of AI and digital technologies to drive economic growth, improve public administration, and productivity.
“This will position Nigeria competitively in the global digital marketplace. We therefore commend the National Assembly for initiating a structured, risk-aware approach to digital economy governance,” he said.
The organisation’s chairman emphasised the need for proper legislation of the framework, saying its effectiveness and credibility would help to bring about meaningful growth of the country, depending on its ethical implementation.
He said that such would entail continuous stakeholders engagement with industries, academia, civil societies and the Nigerians in Diaspora.
“Nigeria’s Diaspora community brings deep expertise in AI policy, digital regulation, cybersecurity, fintech, healthtech, govtech and emerging technologies from leading jurisdictions around the world.
“NiDO-Worldwide, therefore, stands ready to support government by offering technical insight, diaspora expertise, capacity-building support and constructive policy engagement.
“Our position is clear — Nigeria’s digital future must be innovative, inclusive, secure and trusted. The Nigerian Diaspora can contribute immensely to achieving these,” he further said.
According to him, responsible digital governance will not only accelerate development, but also strengthen investors’ confidence, protect citizens and enhance Nigeria’s standing in the global digital economy.
“NiDO-Worldwide looks forward to continued engagement with policymakers and relevant institutions as this Bill progresses, in the shared interest of building a resilient, ethical and future-ready digital Nigeria,” he added. (NAN) (www.nannews)
