The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Christopher Maikalangu, has received a significant boost in his re-election bid with the unveiling of a comprehensive campaign strategy by the “Maikalangu Think Tank”.
The strategy aims to secure Maikalangu’s victory in the forthcoming area council elections scheduled for Feb. 21.
The group comprised developers, contractors, and public servants.
Its members declared that their mission was to “repay” the Chairman for his record-breaking developmental strides in infrastructure, education, and rural electrification.
The Coordinator of the Think Tank, Mr Emmanuel Inyang, said that the group had moved from “silent operations” to an all-out public mobilisation.
Speaking at the unveiling of the first of ten mega-billboards at the AMAC gate, Inyang said that the group would deploy billboards across all strategic locations in AMAC.
“This is just a tip of it to let Nigerians know that we are all out to ensure that the chairman of AMAC comes back for a second term.
“The man who has done so well deserves to be given a second term. We believe It is time for us to give back to you.
“We are all out to ensure that the chairman of AMAC comes back for a second term.
“We strongly believe that Nigerians are willing and ready and happy and calling other Nigerians to join us to vote for the chairman to return back for the second term,” he said.
Inyang said that the group had previously funded voter registration drive and is currently mobilising residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“Through partnerships with market leaders the group is consolidating support among market women across the FCT,” he said.
The Local Education Authority (LEA) Secretary of AMAC, Hajiya Mariam Baba, highlighted the Chairman’s unprecedented focus on staff welfare and education.
”He is the first chairman to pay all minimum wage arrears to teachers.
“If you look at our classrooms and facilities today, the difference is clear. We are saying he must go again,” she said.
Responding to the endorsement, Maikalangu said that the support of the Think Tank had given him the courage to start the movement.
The Chairman took the opportunity to address external political interference, insisting that the Area Council elections should remain a local affair.
He challenged every supporter to mobilise voters for the election, insisting that his track record of roads, schools, and water projects would speak for him at the polls. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
