The Nuhu Ango Foundation (NAF) has donated 200 academic books to Abdulkadir Kure University Minna (AKUM), as part of efforts to promote education and sustain the legacy of it’s founder, late Prof. Nuhu Ango-Aliyu.
Presenting the books, the wife of the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Dr Asabe Sule -Garba, said the donation was aimed at supporting academic excellence and contributing to the intellectual development of students of the institution.
She explained that AKUM was deliberately included among the beneficiaries of the Foundation’s interventions because of the cordial relationship the Vice-Chancellor shared with her late husband, describing the university as a home to the family.
Garba said the foundation had been in existence before the demise of her husband, noting that he had remained committed to reaching out to vulnerable members of the society through empowerment programmes, donations and other humanitarian activities.
According to her, the foundation places top priority on education, with the aim of shaping the ideologies and thinking of students before they graduate.
“One of our objectives is to impact positively on the lives of students so that they come out as professionals with academic excellence, which is why AKUM must benefit from the foundation,” she said.
She disclosed that the donated books were authored by her late husband before his demise, adding that approval for their production by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) came after his passing.
Garba expressed hope that the 200 copies donated to the university would be judiciously utilised in order to mould students in line with the vision of the late professor.
In his remarks, Prof. Mohammed Aliyu-Paiko, Vice-Chancellor of AKUM commended Garba for sustaining her husband’s vision through the activities of the Foundation, describing the initiative as being on the right track.
He said that her decision to continue with the philanthropic mandate of the late Prof. Aliyu would ensure that his legacy did not die.
“For the wife to have taken this mandate and resolved not to allow the initiative to die, but to continue in the direction he was going, shows that the foundation is on the right track.
“We encourage them, we applaud them and we are ready to partner with them to take the initiative to greater heights,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the University Registrar, Bursar and the institution’s Librarian were present at the presentation ceremony.
