Bwari (Abuja), Feb. 3, 2026 (NAN) Mr Julius Adamu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council of FCT, has assured residents of his commitment to inclusive, grassroots development.
Adamu, who gave the promise in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Bwari, Abuja, also promised to prioritise improved infrastructure, if voted into office.
NAN reports that the candidate, a former Speaker of the legislature arm of the district, is contesting alongside his vice-chairmanship candidate, Mr Danjuma Usman.
Adamu said that, if elected into office, his administration would consolidate on the already existing development plans of the incumbent chairman, Mr John Gabaya, and improve on the structures.
“Governance is supposed to be a process that needs continuous improvement, especially an improvement on what the previous government had done or left behind.
“So our plan is to improve on what this administration has put on ground, especially with regards to quality education, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment and rural development,” he said.
The chairmanship candidate added that if voted into office, his administration would also focus on empowering market women and petty traders with incentives that would grow their businesses and improve on their capital and, by extension, their livelihood.
On accountability and transparency, Adamu promised an inclusive governance that would involve dialogue with all stakeholders and community members for the purpose of growth and development.
He said: “When I was the speaker in Gabaya’s first tenure as chairman, we held town hall meetings where we dialogued with residents and community members, irrespective of their political or religious affiliations.
“This gave us room to tell the people what the administration had done and what they planned to do, as it affects the community, while it also allowed the people to voice out their needs to the government.
“That is the structure I want to emulate, once elected, so that there’s room for accountability and transparency in governance.”
Adamu also promised to work toward developing communities that were “left behind”, while assuring Igu, Shere and Kawu wards of the district of access roads and rural electrification.
He, however, appealed to his supporters to remain peaceful during the campaign period, on the day of the election and after the exercise, maintaining that peaceful coexistence was paramount to the community.
“We are all fighting for the development of Bwari Area Council. We are all one. So there is no need for violence or destroying what had already been built or what we are trying to build.
“On the day of the election, come out en masse and vote; follow laid down procedures and be calm. At the end of the day, only one winner will emerge and lead the people.
“After that, there will be nothing like political party but a leader who is expected to carry everybody along, regardless of religion, political party or tribe, for the benefit of the entire people of Bwari,” he said.
NAN reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had scheduled Feb. 21 for the FCT area council elections across all the six districts of the territory. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
