Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has reaffirmed confidence in Super Eagles Head Coach, Eric Chelle, amid reported external interest.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chelle drew attention following the Super Eagles’ impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Gusau told NAN on Wednesday in Abuja that the Malian tactician remains under contract and fully committed to Nigeria’s football project.
According to him, the federation is focused on maintaining stability within the national team set-up.
“We have a binding contract with Eric and we expect full respect for that agreement. Stability is crucial for our progress.
“Chelle’s priority is building a competitive squad capable of success in major tournaments.
“The federation will continue to support the coach in consolidating the team’s recent gains,” he said.
Gusau dismissed suggestions that financial offers elsewhere could lure the coach away from the Super Eagles.
“It is not about money. For any serious coach, achievement, legacy and the right environment to succeed are paramount.
“Chelle strongly believes in the Super Eagles’ potential to dominate African football and compete globally.
“He is convinced he can accomplish his professional ambitions with Nigeria,” Gusau said.
Gusau credited Chelle’s leadership for the team’s improved tactical identity and attacking intensity at the 2025 AFCON.
“We saw tactical discipline, attacking purpose and resilience. The statistics speak for themselves.
“The Super Eagles finished as the tournament’s highest-scoring team and were unbeaten in regulation time, losing only on penalties to the hosts.
“That performance reflects growth. We are building something solid and sustainable,” he said.
He acknowledged the Federal Government’s support through the National Sports Commission, describing collaboration as vital to progress.
“When institutions align behind a common goal, success becomes achievable. This partnership has strengthened our structure,” Gusau noted.
The NFF boss assured Nigerians that more young talents would be integrated into the squad during upcoming international windows.
He said planned November friendlies were disrupted by World Cup play-off commitments but preparations remain on course.
“We discovered exciting young players and more are on the way.
“Our priority was the play-offs, but we remain committed to exposing new players at the right time. The March window offers fresh opportunities,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to remain optimistic about the team’s future under Chelle.
“This is just the beginning. Nigerians should expect greater performances from the Super Eagles,” Gusau said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
