Abuja, Feb. 13, 2026 (NAN) Vice-Chancellor of European University of Nigeria (EUN), Abuja, Prof. Emmanuel Ibezim, says the institution will ‘disrupt’ Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape through innovation, global partnerships and skills-driven learning.

Ibezim made this known on Friday in Abuja at a news conference to unveil the university, with the theme: “Disruptive Innovation in Nigerian University Education.”

He described EUN as a fast-rising, European-aligned private university located in Duboyi District, Abuja, established to address gaps in the country’s university system and provide globally-competitive education.

According to him, the university is patterned after some leading European institutions, such as European University, Cyprus and University of Europe for Applied Sciences.

He said that the institution had engaged visiting lecturers from Europe and appointed representatives in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and Germany to strengthen its international outlook.

The vice-chancellor stated that all the institution’s 23 academic programmes had been approved by National Universities Commission (NUC) and other relevant professional bodies.

He listed some of the programmes to include: Pharmacy, Nursing, Law, Mass Communication, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Computer Science and Physiotherapy.

Others are: Radiography, Medical Laboratory Science, Accountancy, Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Economics and Public Health.

Ibezim said that the university boasts of internationally-exposed faculty members, including three former vice-chancellors of Nigerian universities, adding that the institution had already recorded research breakthroughs despite its young age.

He cited innovations by staff members, such as locally-fabricated laboratory equipment, drone technology for surveillance and computational research into anti-malarial drug discovery from neem.

The vice-chancellor said that the university would soon commence commercial environmental impact assessments for public and private organisations as well as drug production through its Faculty of Pharmacy.

He also mentioned EUN’s compulsory “Learn-a-Skill” scheme, requiring every student to acquire at least one vocational skill before graduation, and a foreign language programme to enhance global mobility.

According to him, the university maintains zero tolerance for drug abuse, in partnership with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and operates a stable academic calendar devoid of strike disruptions.

Ibezim said that the institution also offers merit and need-based scholarships, moderate tuition fees and modern facilities, including fully-furnished hostels, electronic libraries, Wi-Fi coverage and 24-hour power and water supply.

The university, he said, aimed to rank among Nigeria’s top five universities in Cyber Security, Nursing, Pharmacy, Software Engineering and Law within the next five years.

The vice-chancellor announced that the university’s maiden matriculation ceremony would hold on March 7.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
