Retired Gen. Christopher Musa, Minister of Defence, has commended officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their loyalty, professionalism and sacrifices, praising their steadfast commitment to duty and service.
Musa, represented by Maj.-Gen. Henry Wesley, made the remarks on Thursday during the West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 celebration at Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
“We owe you a profound debt of gratitude for your sacrifices, I am pleased to note the continued commitment to the welfare and well-being of service personnel and their families.
“On this occasion of WASA, I commend the gallant officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army and urge you to sustain your dedication and commitment to duty. I feel truly honoured to share this memorable occasion with the personnel and families of the Nigerian Army,” he said.
Also speaking, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of officers, soldiers and their families, describing them as the core and enduring strength of the Nigerian Army.
“The existing challenges, both operational and administrative have been identified and concrete steps have already been initiated to address them. I assure you that I will continue to provide the necessary support to enhance your professional competence, morale and overall performance within the limits of available resources.
“As we go into this year, I urge you all to demonstrate renewed commitment, moral reputation and a more positive disposition in fulfilling your duties and responsibilities toward your nation.
“By performing our duties effectively, the Nigerian Army boasts of having well-motivated and dedicated troops who are fully committed to discharging our constitutional mandates with diligence and professionalism,” he said
Maj.-Gen. Maxwell Dangana, Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, reflected on the Department’s 2025 achievements, highlighting operational successes, logistical support and training programmes that strengthened the readiness and efficiency of the Nigerian Army.
“Throughout this year the Department and Command continued to provide operational, administrative and logistic support to the Nigerian Army formations and units, while also conducting training activities in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s training directive and the Nigerian Army Focus of Events.”
The WASA 2025 celebration featured military exhibitions, cultural dances, food displays by various army departments and the presentation of awards to the best-performing personnel in various departments.(NAN)
