Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has assured party faithful and aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the party will conduct free and fair governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sule gave the assurance on Tuesday during an APC stakeholders’ meeting held at Government House Lafia.

He said credible primaries would strengthen the party’s chances of victory in the next general elections by ensuring the emergence of the most widely accepted candidate.

“I came in through free and fair primaries, and by the grace of God, I will also conduct free and fair primaries. There is no need for anyone to raise tension unnecessarily; the process will be transparent,” the governor said.

He added that his priority was to see a successor who would surpass his achievements and sustain the APC’s leadership in the state.

“I want to hand over to another APC governor in 2027; that is my prayer,” he stated.

Sule also appreciated party executives and stakeholders for their support during the party’s recent e-registration exercise and mega rally in the state.

In his remarks, former governor Umar Al-Makura commended Sule and party leaders for convening the meeting, describing it as a step toward strengthening unity and progress within the party.

Al-Makura urged stakeholders to remain committed to teamwork and democratic principles to ensure victory in 2027.

Also speaking, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, praised the governor’s performance, noting that recent defections of seven lawmakers to the APC had given the party a two-thirds majority in the Assembly.

He pledged continued legislative support and cooperation with the executive arm for effective governance.

Earlier, Mr Aliyu Bello, the state APC Chairman, lauded the governor’s leadership style and thanked stakeholders for their contributions to the party’s growth.

Bello reminded members that, in line with party resolutions, officials from ward to state level would emerge through consensus to promote unity, peace and stability.

He urged members to remain united and committed so that the party could retain its positions in 2027.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was attended by dignitaries including Mr Silas Agata, Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; Reps Abubakar Nalaraba, Jeremiah Umaru and Abdulmumin Ari.

Others are the APC National Deputy Secretary, Abubakar Kana; and ALGON Chairman, Safiyanu Isah Andaha, among other stakeholders. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
