Prof. Ahmed Okene, the Provost, Centre for Strategic Research and Studies (CSRS) of the National Defence College (NDC), says the position of the U.S. in the world ecosystem is central.

Okene disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja, at a high-level roundtable titled “United States Strategic Repositioning from Selected Global Institutions: Implications for Multilateral Cooperation, Security Partnerships, and Climate Governance”.

He said the roundtable would respond to the recent policy shift by the U.S., indicating a recalibration of engagement with selected international organisations and multilateral platforms.

Okene said the development had direct implications for climate finance, humanitarian coordination, diplomatic cooperation and regional security frameworks affecting Nigeria.

According to him, as global governance dynamics evolve, the roundtable will provide a platform for strategic assessment of how these changes influence Nigeria’s nationals’ interest, security partnerships and climate-security risk management.

He said the roundtable was all about the U.S., repositioning itself by moving out of some multinational and international organisation.

“It is all about the implications of the actions of the U.S. on multilateralism, climate governance, and security at both local and international levels for countries like Nigeria.

“The U.S. is a big country and the biggest global player in almost everything, security, food, environment and others.

“In the past, the U.S., through its governance, has been able to impact almost all societies in Europe, Africa, Asia, and others.

“As you can see, the U.S. has pulled itself out from several UN and non-UN organisations and the impact is being felt,” he said.

He said the action of the U.S. had a lot of implications for governance globally in various areas. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
