The Empowering Abilities Through Inclusive Pages (EATIP) Project, an NGO, has advanced its inclusive education drive following an advocacy visit to the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

This is contained in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday, by Dr Praise Akobo, Executive Director of YieldUp Development Initiative.

Akobo said the EATIP team was received on Nov. 18, 2025, by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, alongside other directors of the council.

She said the meeting sought NERDC’s support for the assessment and curriculum integration of its inclusive book titled, “Awakening Possibilities in Disabilities.”

Akobo said the book, designed for students with and without disabilities, would be produced in print and braille formats, with adaptation support from the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).

She said four copies of the book were submitted to NERDC on Jan. 29, 2026, for assessment, adding that the review process was ongoing.

According to her, feedback from NERDC will be forwarded to the Minister of Education and the author to guide necessary revisions ahead of curriculum integration.

Akobo said the integration was required before the planned book launch scheduled between March and April 2026, subject to official feedback.

She said the team also presented two additional initiatives during the visit, including the “Waste to Worth” recycling programme aimed at promoting cognitive, environmental and entrepreneurial skills among learners.

She added that the project proposed the expansion of its Universal Design for Learning Teacher Training in Abuja and other states through NERDC’s Special Needs Programme Department.

According to her, the teacher training initiative followed a successful pilot phase conducted in Benue. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
