Mr Peter Eze, Chairman, Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) has pledged strict enforcement of the federal character principle.
Eze made the pledge on Tuesday at the inauguration of the committee at the FCC headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement signed personally by him after the inauguration Eze said that the committee was among the 25 operational committees recently approved at the commission’s weekly plenary.
The plenary, according to him, was presided over by the Executive Chairman of the commission, Mrs Ayo Omidiran.
Eze said the committee would ensure compliance with the laws establishing the commission in Ministries, Departments and Agencies under the Federal Ministries of Works, Transport and Aviation.
He said the Federal Character principle is a constitutional provision to prevent dominance of public institutions by any region or group.
Eze quoted President Bola Tinubu as describing the commission as the “conscience of the nation.”
He said members drawn from the six geopolitical zones were committed to promoting fairness, equity and national unity in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The laws establishing the commission are clear.
“Our duty is to ensure full implementation and compliance.
“Every Nigerian deserves equal opportunity in public service, irrespective of tribe, gender or region,” he said.
Eze said effective enforcement of the commission’s mandate would strengthen unity and foster a stronger sense of belonging among citizens.
He assured that the committee would discharge its duties with transparency, accountability and dedication to constitutional order. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
