Turkish Airlines has introduced the “Share Item Location” feature from Google’s Find Hub to help passengers share the location of misplaced luggage directly with the airline and speed up baggage recovery.

The airline said in a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday that it had integrated the feature developed by Google into its official baggage recovery process to help trace and return delayed or missing bags more quickly.

According to the airline, passengers travelling with a Find Hub-compatible tracker tag attached to their luggage can generate a secure location link through the Find Hub app and share it with a Turkish Airlines baggage representative.

The shared link provides the airline’s ground staff with accurate location details, helping them locate and return luggage faster.

Passengers can open the Find Hub app, select the missing item and tap “Share Item Location” to create a unique secure URL, which can then be forwarded to the airline’s baggage team.

The airline said the link allows its staff to view the item’s location as it updates, improving the speed and accuracy of recovery.

It added that passengers remain fully in control of the process and can stop sharing the location at any time through the app.

“Links automatically expire after seven days, and sharing is disabled once the item is detected back with its owner. All location data is encrypted to ensure passenger privacy,” the airline said.

The airline’s Vice President, Ground Operations, Mehmet Yıldırım, said the initiative reflected the carrier’s commitment to adopting innovative digital solutions to enhance passengers’ travel experience.

“Turkish Airlines continuously invests in cutting-edge, data-driven digital solutions to enhance an end-to-end travel experience for our guests.

“By integrating innovative technologies such as Google’s Find Hub, we are delighted to be among the first global carriers to offer passengers enhanced baggage tracking and recovery capabilities,” he said.

Also, Google’s Vice President of Engineering, Erik Kay, said Find Hub leveraged a global network of more than one billion Android devices to help users locate lost or misplaced items.

“We are proud to work with partners to help make finding your belongings simple and seamless on Android,” he said. (NAN)
