The Tinubu Northern Women Support Group (TNWSG) on Friday, inaugurated an empowerment programme targeting 100,000 petty traders across Northern Nigeria to drive economic inclusion and grassroots development.
The TNWSG National Coordinator, Hajia Aisha Obalim, said at a news conference in Abuja that the initiative aligned with the government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” to translate policies into tangible local impact.
“We are working with women engaged in petty trade across the three Northern geopolitical zones,” Obalim said, highlighting the programme aimed to boost women’s economic participation and commercial capacity.
She explained that the initiative also supported the re-election campaign of President Bola Tinubu, enabling him to advance reforms designed to grow the nation and empower women economically.
“Women in the Northern region must be empowered across all 19 states and the FCT, as they make their choices in the 2027 general elections,” Obalim added.
Obalim said the selected 100,000 beneficiaries would receive financial grants to strengthen their petty trade, enhance working capital, expand inventory, and increase market reach to improve overall livelihoods.
“This funding is structured to ensure sustainability and growth, enabling hardworking women to scale petty trading into significant commercial ventures,” she said, noting the programme’s long-term impact.
“The TNWSG programme will operate on a structured cluster model, with beneficiaries grouped in clusters of 50 women, each overseen by a designated Cluster Lead to monitor progress and ensure accountability.
“This leadership framework guarantees supervision, tracks commercial success, and ensures tangible impact of funds on traders’ livelihoods,” Obalim explained, emphasising the focus on collective growth and measurable outcomes. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
