The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Abuja has reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian cause as Muslims across the world observe Quds Day.
In a statement by its press section on Friday, the embassy described the occasion as a global expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people and a reminder of the international community’s responsibility to address its long-standing crisis.
The embassy noted that Quds Day, observed annually on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, was proclaimed in 1979 by Ruhollah Khomeini following the Iranian Revolution.
According to the statement, the event has since grown into an international platform for raising awareness about the Palestinian issue and advocating justice, freedom and self-determination for the Palestinian people.
It said the situation in Palestine remained a major concern for many countries due to the prolonged conflict, humanitarian challenges and continued suffering of civilians.
“The resilience of the Palestinian people has kept the issue at the forefront of global attention,” the embassy said, noting that the pursuit of dignity, self-determination and fundamental human rights remained central to the discourse.
The embassy also emphasised the importance of respect for international law and humanitarian principles in addressing the conflict and promoting lasting peace in the region.
It added that the Islamic Republic of Iran supported diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a sustainable and just resolution of the Palestinian issue.
The statement urged the international community and global institutions to play a more active role in protecting human rights, preventing violations of international law and promoting dialogue as a means of resolving conflicts.
According to the embassy, Quds Day continues to attract support from millions of people across different cultures and regions who express solidarity with the Palestinian people and call for a peaceful and just future for the region. (NAN)
