Mohammed said the crash occurred on Sunday on Zaria–Funtua Highway near Zaria Academy, involving a Toyota Corolla and a Peugeot 806 conveying nine passengers.
According to him, one person died at the scene, while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“The FRSC rescue team responded promptly after receiving a distress call and provided first aid before evacuating the injured to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria.
“During the rescue and post-crash clearance operations, FRSC personnel discovered a large sum of money and other valuables scattered at the crash scene.
“The operatives carefully secured the money and valuables to prevent them from being lost or tampered with.
“The officers secured N3.7 million and other valuables worth about N500,000 until they were returned to their rightful owners,” he said.
Mohammed said the development reinforced public confidence in the FRSC as a dependable institution committed to transparency, professionalism and service.
According to him, the Zaria Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander, Nasiru Falgore, formally handed the recovered money and valuables to the victims on Monday.
The handover was conducted in the presence of relatives of the victims and other witnesses.
Mohammed said the gesture reflected the corps’ commitment to protecting both life and property on Nigerian roads.
He commended the operatives for demonstrating integrity, discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The corps marshal described the action as a reflection of the FRSC’s institutional values of honesty, accountability and service to humanity.
He also praised the Zaria Unit commander and the personnel for upholding high standards of discipline and transparency.
Mohammed reiterated that the FRSC would continue strengthening a culture of discipline, accountability and professionalism within the organisation.
He stressed that integrity must remain the guiding principle for all personnel in the discharge of their duties.
The victims expressed gratitude to the FRSC for safeguarding their valuables during a moment of great vulnerability.
They also commended the operatives for their swift rescue response after the crash.
They pledged to serve as ambassadors of road safety in their communities.
